Branding – Invasion of muh cheapness

1.What is a brand?
~ A type of product manufactured by a particular company under a particular name.
2.Do you consider yourself a brand?
~ N’awww . My name is really complicated to be a brand . Unless the wanna call me green giant  ( ‘Cause I’m 6’2 , ha puns. )
3.What is your favorite brand?
~ Pfff- I’m not a material girl. So Arizona ;D
4.How will the people around you react if you didn’t wear a brand?
~ Well you see; I go to an all African-American school and Nike are a pretty big thing.  I don’t go the type of money to buy ‘Versace’ lotion and stuff.  But  my height intimidates others so it’s allllllllllllllllllllll gewwwwwwwwwwwwwdImage

Discussion questions? -Social Media –

 1.Do you think that any speech should be allowed on social media? Why or why not?

  Yes – but in a way no. There should be some restrictions to what you’re able to say online.  This can help stop many controversy’s . I believe that everyone should apply the  ‘think before you speak ‘ rule online as well. What you say on the internet can be taken the wrong way and hurt people on the other side of the screen.

2. Where is the balance between free speech and community standards?

The balance between free speech and community standards is that they both are allowed to say what they want. Freedom of speech.

3. In 1927, Supreme Court Justice Louis Brandeis advised, in his famous Whitney v. California opinion, “If there be time to expose through discussion the falsehood and fallacies, to avert the evil by the processes of education, the remedy to be applied is more speech, not enforced silence.” What does that mean? How does it apply to this article?

Louis wants to try to emphasize that there should be less talking and more doing. Instead of preaching about the things they could do to make it better they should just get up and do it . this applies to the article because the speeches spoke of continuing violence instead of stopping it.

4. In Twitter’s court case, do you agree with Twitter or the French High Court? Explain.

 I agree with twitter because Twitter originally agreed to block tweets using the hashtag #unbonjuif (which translates to #agoodjew), but refused to hand over identities , even though I think they should hand over the identities this shows how trust worthy Twitter’s privacy settings are.

5. Many people were surprised that Facebook took so long to respond to the anti-women content, given that their Chief Operating Officer is a woman, Sheryl Sandberg. Is this fair? What difference does it make if women are in top leadership positions of companies?

 I don’t find it to be fair , It should be attended to like any other high standard case. This can lead to a lot for women… like boycotting and etc.  It makes no difference if women are in top positions in companies. If the bible is true – women were made from the limbs of a man. People just have to be less sextist. EMBRACE  THE SEXES PEOPLE . Image

Business Activity #1 – More work !

Starbucks * [ Social Medias used {SMU} : Twitter , Facebook , YouTube]

  • Their target audience is adults ranging from ages 25-40 they try to keep them coming back with their hip style and consistent advertising and decor . Although adults make up 50% of the sales . Teens usually go there and grab a cup of joe and study in the cafe itself or even hang out with friends. Starbucks is now trying to target the kids  on their market by offering “babbyccinos”, This won’t only bring attention to the kids put to the parents buying it as well. Still putting the older adults at the top of the charts.
  •  Another Demographic(s) ;  Gender-  Starbucks  has 52% male customers and 48% Female.    Income  –  Starbucks advertise and have more stores in areas where people make around  $30k-$60k (They have 46% of their stores located in these areas)

– * – If I had to help advertise Starbucks I think I’d build up more stores in well – known areas. For instance , I have to travel into a two-fare zone just to get that delicious caramel frappuccino .Coffee

Pepsi * {SMU;  Twitter , Facebook , Email }

  1.  Pepsi’s target audience is mainly teens and children. But parents are the ones paying for it so they try to include them as well. Race , Shape , Size , Height all doesn’t matter to the soda company.  Pepsi has produced over 216 flavors that are sold throughout the continents of Europe , Asia, Latin America , North America , Austrailia, almost everywhere in the world.  One rare demographic is that they’re targeting the Audience in Japan more that any other country out there. They try to promote their product isn Japan by manufacturing chips , Bibs , Hats , Toys , Golf Sets  and even notebooks .  Pepsi  also targets people of the larger size whom usually have an excuse of not drinking sugary, high-caloried soda by making Diet Pepsi or beter known as Pepsi Max.

If I had to suggest a way for them to improve their commercials…I’d put it on more channels . There’s nothing much to critique on Pepsi’s marketing stratergy.

Nike * { SMU; Twitter , Facebook }
  Nike’s are viewed as shoes that encourages your way of life. Their target audience is anyone that can relate to having  a busy lifestyle of either  jogging , running, taking a stroll. Basically the active life. They also target teens more than anything by trying to  put ‘hipper’ designs out on their shoes and by putting flashy colors , or the feature to make those shoes glow in the dark. Teens usually choose Nike’s over any other brand because of it’s quality and it’s good reputation. Nikes’ also targets kids under the age of 15 with their ‘Nike kids’ section.
If I had to change anything about the way they advertise I’d probably add more celebrities in the commercials to capture the common eye.Nike
